- Use once your tattoo is fully healed, any time it will see the sun.
- Step 1: Make sure the tattoo is completely healed before using SPF on it. On fresh, unhealed ink, follow your artist's aftercare instead.
- Step 2: Apply a generous, even layer over the tattoo and surrounding skin about 15-20 minutes before going out in the sun.
- Step 3: Reapply at least every 2 hours, and always after swimming, sweating or towelling dry.
- Step 4: Use it every time the tattoo is exposed, not just on holiday. Everyday UV is what dulls ink over the years.
- Step 5: For the best long-term result, keep the skin moisturised too. Healthy skin holds colour better.
- Apply generously: Most people under-apply SPF. A generous even layer is what actually delivers the protection on the label, so don't be shy with it.
- Reapply, always: No SPF lasts all day. Top up every couple of hours and after water to stay protected.
- Patch test if sensitive: If you have sensitive skin or allergies, patch test 24 hours before first use.
- Wait until healed: Never put SPF on a fresh, unhealed tattoo. Protect new ink by keeping it out of the sun completely until it has healed.
- Everyday, not just holidays: UV reaches skin on cloudy days and through windows too. Daily SPF is what keeps ink sharpest.
- Layer with balm: Moisturised skin holds colour better. Balm to nourish, SPF to shield, together they keep ink looking fresh.
- No soaking: Avoid baths, swimming pools, and saunas for at least 2-3 weeks. Quick showers are fine.
- Free UK shipping on orders over £50. Add a top-up to qualify.
- Same-day dispatch on orders placed before 2pm (Mon-Fri).
- Next-day delivery available at checkout when you need it fast.
- International shipping available to US, EU, and worldwide.

BUILT TO PROTECT IT
Sun fades ink. This is how you stop it. If any of these sound like you, shield up.
Don't let the sun undo it
A week in the sun can dull ink that took hours to create. High-factor SPF keeps colour crisp while you enjoy the trip. Protect the work.
Keep it sharp for years
UV breaks down ink over time, fading colour and blurring line work. Regular SPF is the single best thing you can do to keep a tattoo looking new.
The spots that catch the most sun
Exposed placements take the most UV and fade fastest. Daily SPF on hands, arms and neck tattoos keeps them from ageing before their time.
Old ink, new ink, all of it
It is never too late to start protecting a tattoo. Shield every healed piece you have and slow the fading from here on. One bottle, all your ink.
Spent good money on your ink? Protect it, and it stays sharp for life.
HOW TO SHIELD YOUR INK
Protecting a tattoo from the sun is simple. Do it every time it is exposed and your ink stays sharp for years.
Wait until healed
Only use SPF on a fully healed tattoo. Keep fresh ink out of the sun entirely until it has settled.
Apply generously
Spread a generous, even layer over the tattoo 15-20 minutes before sun exposure. Under-applying is the most common SPF mistake.
Reapply often
Top up at least every 2 hours, and always after swimming, sweating or drying off. No SPF lasts all day.
Every time, for life
Make it a habit whenever the tattoo sees sun, not just on holiday. Consistency is what keeps ink from fading.
Why UV matters
UV is the single biggest cause of tattoo fading, breaking down ink pigment over years. High-factor SPF is the one habit that keeps colour and line work looking fresh long-term.
Got Questions?
Everything you need to know about protecting your ink.
UV light breaks down tattoo pigment over time, which is what makes old tattoos look faded and blurry. A high-factor SPF blocks most of that UV, so applying it whenever your tattoo is in the sun is the best way to keep colour and line work sharp for years.
Only once it is fully healed. Never put SPF on fresh, unhealed ink, keep a new tattoo out of the sun completely until it has settled (usually 2-4 weeks), then start using Tattoo Shield every time it is exposed.
Apply a generous, even layer about 15-20 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply at least every 2 hours (and after swimming or sweating). Most people under-apply SPF, which is the main reason it seems not to work, be generous.
No. It is a high-factor SPF, so you can use it anywhere you would use sunscreen. We designed it with tattoos in mind, protecting your ink, but it works just as well as everyday sun protection on any skin.

WHY NUMB'D?
"Does SPF really keep tattoos sharp?"
UV protection is proven.
Sun exposure is the number one cause of tattoo fading. High-factor SPF blocks most of that UV, which is exactly why artists tell every client to wear it.
"Won't any old sunscreen do?"
High factor, non-greasy, made properly.
A high-factor SPF100 in a non-greasy formula you will actually want to wear daily, made in GMP-certified facilities. The higher the factor and the more consistently you wear it, the better the protection.
"Will it leave a white cast on my ink?"
Rubs in clean over dark ink.
Formulated to rub in without the heavy white cast that ruins photos of black and colour work. Protection you can wear over your ink without it looking chalky.
"Is it worth the habit?"
The cheapest way to protect your ink.
A tattoo costs hundreds. A bottle of SPF costs a fraction of that and keeps it looking new for years. From the team trusted by 500+ UK studios.
